I'm watching CNN, and the channel is currently reporting on protesters in Egypt who have attacked the presidential palace. The screen graphics report "Molotov cocktails thrown over wall; security firing teargas."
I am not making light of this serious and scary situation, but the on-screen reporting really cleared up a point of long-standing confusion for me.
I always thought this particular weapon was called a "mazel tov" cocktail. Which has always really confused me because mazel tov is such a joyous, happy, congratulatory exclamation, you know? Such a name never really jived with the angry and violent situations in which the weapons are often used.
I always tried to imagine angry, dirty, desperate protesters hurling cocktails while mustering their best "MAZEL TOV!" in the direction of their enemy. Strange mental image.
So glad we've cleared that up.
And I bet the FBI is soooooo going to knock on my door in a few minutes. I just googled "what is a molotov cocktail?"
I can explain, I swear. It's simple, really. I'm an idiot.
