The Details, man

I wrote the following for a wedding website I'm creating for our out of town guests, and I thought I'd share it here - for those of you who give a hoot about THE PROPOSAL. Enjoy, and Happy Monday!
_____

New Year's Eve had never been her favorite holiday. And, (as she'd been known to do) she made sure everyone knew it...especially Jeremy, her beloved.

'Maybe this year will be different,' she thought to herself. 'After all, I have a date this year. And plans that include something other than un-decorating the Christmas tree. Alone.' Still, she was skeptical.

The day started out normally enough. She went to get coffee with her friend, Christine. After about an hour of solving the world's problems (the UN really could use the wise council of these two!), she headed home and made a bee line for the dresser. She quickly abandoned her cute going-to-have-coffee outfit in favor of gym clothes. It's a decision she would later regret.

After the wardrobe change, she headed to the kitchen. She had recipes to make for the New Year's Eve party at John and Gwin's. A few moments later, her phone rang. It was her boyfriend of almost a year, Jeremy. He was headed to her house, he explained, to drop off some tools he'd gotten for Christmas in her detached garage-turned-man-cave.

She thought nothing of the call and instead opened the kitchen door to let in the fresh air and sunshine. Just about the time she began unloading the dishwasher, she heard his truck in the driveway. She continued to put the silverware away and threw a backwards glance his way when she heard him in the carport.

He was carrying pink roses and champagne, which she immediately interpreted as an effort to make her least favorite holiday a little more favored.

'Aren't you cute with your roses,' she said as she turned around to finish with the silverware.

The next instant, she turned back around to find him on his knee in the kitchen.

'Will you marry me?' he said.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
